In our modern society where all aspects of our lives are almost totally dependent upon electricity, after being exposed to electricity for the all my life I don’t think I could go back. If you walk into your house today, you press a button on the remote control and you expect the TV to come on. There are many things you depend on electricity to do each day. How do you get by without electricity? Everything from telephone and telecommunication systems to water and sewage treatment plants and from our transportation systems of ships, railroads, trucks and aircraft, to refineries, factories, food processing plants and high rise buildings will not work without electricity. No more light, heat, TV, Internet, computers, and music.
Today when you flick a switch, and you expect a light to come on. Just imagine living without electricity, everyday just for light after the sun goes down you would have to use candles and lanterns. You would barley have enough light to even fill a whole room, or even a corridor. You would have to take your lantern with you everywhere you go just to see a couple feet in front of you. Going to school on a cloudy day would be horrific, considering you wouldn’t be able to see anything, in the classroom.

I made a list of the things that we can do in the temporary absence of electricity.
1. Take a walk, bike ride, or exercise
2. Take a nap. Your brain needs a break.
3.Play a game of solitaire with REAL cards.
4. Socialize. The computers may not work but phone lines do. Pick up the phone and call a loved one.
5. Read a REAL book. Candles or flashlights can aid this effort. And contrary to popular belief, you won’t do permanent damage to your eyes.
6. Raid the refrigerator. The food might go bad. Use it or lose it!
7. Sit by a window and write a letter. It’s like an email only you use a PEN or PENCIL and PAPER and it’s a bit more formal. Someone may appreciate it.
8. Make a shopping list. Do a stock-check around the house. Let’s see, batteries, flashlight, a deck of cards, a board game or two, candles, pencil, paper, more food…
9. Tell family stories
10. Hang out with friends
11. Look at the stars with your friends or family.
12. Have a barbeque party at the beach.
